Over the summer holidays (August 2021) members of RYO participated in three online workshop sessions of Mayer’s Faust Overture to celebrate the works of female composers. Although the piece was intimidating at first, members were excited by the challenge the music posed, growing to confidence by the end of the series.
It was really good to keep our own personal playing up during the summer, especially with a work that is slightly more challenging. Having recently played a lot of modern music, it was nice to get back to something more classical.
Playing along with a recording online was really interesting, as it forces you to work on your listening skills to keep in time. It was also good to have the chance to focus on our own playing, as we couldn’t hear our fellow orchestra members!
